The Energy Academy is located on Hadrian Road in Wallsend, east of Central Newcastle. There are several ways to reach the campus:

• By car from Central Newcastle: Drive along the A167 from either the North or South until you reach the turn-off for the A193 to Wallsend. Follow the A193 into Byker, then take the third exit from Byker Roundabout onto the A187 along Fossway. Follow this road all the way to Segedunum Roman Fort, and you will reach the Energy Academy at the next junction.
• By car from the Tyne Tunnel: On the northern bank of the Tyne Tunnel, come off the A19 and follow the signs for the A187 to Wallsend or Newcastle. Follow the A187 onto Hadrian Road and continue straight along this road until the you reach the Energy Academy.
• By bus or Metro: The Energy Academy is less than a five-minute walk away from Wallsend Metro Station. You can reach this stop by taking a Metro on the Yellow Line to Wallsend. Alternatively, you could take the VoltraQ3 bus to Wallsend via Gosforth, Jesmond and the Newcastle Quayside, among other options.

Yes, there is on-site parking at the Energy Academy. However, we have a restricted number of spaces and we encourage students, staff and guests to make use of the great transport links into Wallsend and the Energy Academy.

Yes. Newcastle College can offer travel bursaries for students who meet the relevant criteria to help subsidise their transport to and from the Energy Academy.

Since it opened in 2012, the Energy Academy has worked closely with local and national employers across the renewable, subsea and offshore engineering sector. Check out our Partnerships page to see some of the incredible employers who we work with at the Energy Academy.

All courses at the Energy Academy focus on one of, or a combination of, renewable, subsea and welding disciplines. Each course is developed with employer input and offers exciting career opportunities within the wind energy, subsea, offshore, manufacturing, engineering and construction sectors.

Students at the Energy Academy benefit from links to employers, industry-experienced tutors and first-class specialist facilities, designed to prepare them for a career in one of the fastest-growing industries in the North East.

The Energy Academy expansion means new facilities in carbon capture, hydrogen fuel and battery storage are coming soon. Until then, students can make the most of the industry-standard facilities in renewable, subsea and offshore energy, including:

• the world's most immersive Hybrid Reality (iHR) system.
• MMA, MIG and TIG welding bays.
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
• plasma cutting and engineering workshops.
• wind turbine testing kits.
• solar panel testing equipment.

Students at the Energy Academy will also have full access to our main Rye Hill campus, locates a 10-minute walk away from Newcastle Central Station. Our main campus contains our college Library, additional computing suites and dedicated academic support and study spaces for our students, no matter their level of study.

The Energy Academy comes equipped with plenty of dedicated learning spaces where staff members are on hand to help students with independent study, research and academic skills, such as referencing.

Additional study spaces are also available at the other Specialist Centres or on the main Rye Hill campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, which also has one of the largest further education college libraries in the North of England, and offers Newcastle College students access to over 40,000 books, as well as hundreds of journals, magazines, DVDs, e-books and e-journal resources.

Outside of their academic work, the Energy Academy has a recreational area (complete with ping pong table!) for any breaks students may have between classes. The Energy Academy also backs onto a nearby ASDA and cafeteria, Shelly's Deli, which offers plenty of options for cheap and nutritious food within a short walk from the campus.

Alternatively, students can visit our main Rye Hill campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, where they can benefit from even more social spaces! Each building on Rye Hill campus contains a canteen and/or a coffee shop, including a Costa Coffee in the Parsons building and a fine dining Chefs' Academy in the Lifestyle Academy; an on-site gym available for Higher Education (HE) student use; live music and theatre performance spaces in the Performance Academy; as well as HE-only spaces for degree students in the HE Hub and Parsons Ten. The main campus is also a ten-minute walk from Newcastle City Centre, giving all members of the Newcastle College community easy access to all the shopping, culture and social opportunities they could want.
