Development and regional collaboration
The Energy Academy maintains strong links with employers, who are at the heart of all our teaching. We work closely with employer partners to shape our courses, ensuring that our students develop the skills, knowledge and experience that employers are actively looking for.
One example of our strong collaborations is with Smulders, a leading offshore manufacturer. Together, we designed and developed a Welding Skills Bootcamp to address real skills shortages in the renewables industry, giving learners the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and progress directly into employment.
Watch the video below to see how our strong industry links create incredible opportunities for our learners.

Investment in the Energy Academy
An £8.48m investment for the expansion of Newcastle College's Energy Academy has been approved by North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and the North East Combined Authority Cabinet, in a move which will help thousands of young people to get the skills needed to find jobs and careers in the region’s fast growing green energy sector.
With this funding, a brand-new building will constructed on land next to the existing Energy Academy in Wallsend, doubling the floorspace so the new Energy Academy can triple the number of students who can enrol each year.
